SVC Manuscript Preprint Service

Through the SVC Manuscript Preprint Service, Conference attendees will be able to purchase unformatted preprints of available manuscripts for a nominal fee. This service is popular because attendees use the service to preview presentations they'll attend, to review presentations they missed, and to share the presentation with colleagues. SVC will prepare a title page for your manuscript that contains the title; authors and affiliations; paper number (assigned by SVC); name, company, address, phone, fax, and E-mail of primary author (the presenter); key words (if they were provided); and the SVC Copyright statement.

New for 2005 – Please Read.

If you want your presentation to be available to TechCon attendees this year through the Manuscript Preprint Service, you must ALSO provide us with a Word file with the artwork embedded into position. We will make a PDF of this file and print out copies upon request at the TechCon.

Many of you provide a printout of the file with the artwork embedded so that we can see your preferred position for the artwork. This year we also need a copy of this file. Please mark that disc clearly as Manuscript Preprint.

If you do not provide a Word file with the artwork embedded, your manuscript will not be included in the Manuscript Preprint Service.

Of course, if SVC doesn’t have your manuscript in time, it can't be included in the service. Also, your manuscript will be available to attendees via the Manuscript Preprint Service unless you specifically let us know in writing that you do not want it included (send an E-mail to publications@svc.org). Whether you want your manuscript included in the preprint service or not, it is still due to us by March 1, 2005.

Even if you choose not to participate in the Manuscript Preprint Service and wish to distribute preprints of your manuscript yourself, you must provide SVC with a copy of the preprint. Pending patent requirements mean that SVC must be aware of the distribution of preprints. However, this service was designed so that you do not have to distribute preliminary copies of your paper yourself. Your work will reach a larger audience if you participate in the service.

Please note that the preprint SVC makes available to attendees is not yet formatted as it will appear in the Conference Proceedings. Except for the title page (which SVC creates for each preprint) the preprint will be the version you sent to us. Because it is so important that authors do not embed artwork in the manuscript text files they send to us for the Proceedings, it was decided that using the unformatted version for the preprint would save authors from having to prepare two versions or be confused with two sets of directions.
