SVC Student Sponsorship Program
Full-Time Students Are Eligible

The SVC Student Sponsorship Program provides travel support and conference registration fees to selected full-time registered students who will make an oral technical presentation at the 2006 SVC Technical Conference in Washington, DC, and prepare a manuscript for the Conference Proceedings. A limited number of sponsorships will be awarded to the best applicants. Applicants from academic, research, and technical institutions from the United States and around the world are encouraged to apply. The Student Sponsorship Committee evaluates applications from students and makes selections based on the quality and relevance of the student’s project to the interests and mission of the SVC (a one-page description is required). It will also consider the quality of the application itself (completeness, quality, etc.), potential quality of the oral presentation, its relevance to the specific session, as well as the need for funding.

Requirements for Participation

The student applicant must have a sponsor. The sponsor can be a faculty member at the student’s institution or another academic, technical, or research institution. The sponsor must indicate that he or she understands the nature of the conference and what SVC technical programs are about.

During the selection process, preference will be given to those applicants who have not already received sponsorship from SVC. The successful candidates should also preferably come from different institutions.

SVC Student Sponsorship Program Abstract & Application Deadline: September 30, 2005

The following items must be included in the application packet:

  1. A completed Abstract Registration Form. This includes a signed commitment to prepare a manuscript—by March 1, 2006.
  2. A letter of recommendation from the sponsor that confirms that the student is a full-time registered student in a university.
  3. A one-page description of the student’s project.
  4. A 200-word abstract—Include hardcopy with application and also send abstract by E-mail to svcabstracts@svc.org.
  5. A completed travel support estimate form. (Request this form from SVC.)

Society of Vacuum Coaters Foundation Scholarship Program

The SVC Foundation supports the charitable, educational, and scientific activities of the Society of Vacuum Coaters. The Foundation has developed a scholarship program to benefit those entering or already engaged in an undergraduate or graduate course of study important to vacuum coating technology.

Deserving recipients will be awarded generous support toward their education in vacuum coating technologies. Watch for details regarding the application process and deadlines on the SVC Web Site.
