Whether this is your first time to Washington, DC or you’ve been there before, we would like to help you maximize your visit to the nation’s capital. Bring your walking shoes! The National Mall with 20 major sites is two miles long. Jodie McClure, our Companion Hostess, will help you get acquainted with the Metro — DC’s safe, easy way to travel with a station just a block from the conference hotel. Please send an E-mail to Jodie at jodiemcclure@hotmail.com and she will send you an Interest Questionnaire to help her plan some interesting activities for group sightseeing and planned guided tours.
Some possibilities include:
- Monuments and museums — use the Metro and the L’il Red Trolleys (MPI recommends the new Spy Museum and the American Indian Museum!)
- Self-guided or narrated walking tours — on your own or in a group
- Visit historic Georgetown — strolling, lunch and shopping
- Union Station, an elegant setting for souvenir shopping and lunch with Hill workers
- Washington monuments at night tour
- Boat the Potomac to Mount Vernon — a half day tour
- A day in Old Town Alexandria
Meet for breakfast on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday at 7:30 a.m. in a reserved section of Perle’s restaurant in the Marriot Wardman Park Hotel, and plan your day with other companions. We hope you will join us in this fascinating national capital, known for its awe-inspiring monuments and memorials, historical treasures, and vibrant political atmosphere.
