Special Program Features

"Meet the Experts" Corner
Monday April 26 through Wednesday April 28

This program provides an informal setting for conference registrants to obtain answers to their problems. This popular TechCon program was first started in the early 1990s by SVC Technical Director, Don Mattox. The goal was to provide an opportunity for attendees to interact with experts willing to answer questions relating to general thin film deposition issues. A panel of experts will be available to answer general questions on a wide range of topics. Bring your questions and problems. Learn from others.

TechCon attendees are invited to suggest topics of interest to Don Mattox, SVC Technical Director at donmattox@svc.org or call 505/856-7188.

The Don Mattox Tutorial Program
The popular TechCon Tutorials will be held on Monday and Tuesday.

Technology Forum Breakfast Sessions
Tuesday and Wednesday, April 27 and 28 7:00 a.m.–8:20 a.m.

Facilitator: John B. Fenn, Jr., Fennagain

Panel members will be:

  • Johannes Strümpfel of VON ARDENNE ANLAGENTECHNIK GMBH
  • Hans-Georg Lotz of Applied Films GmbH & Co. KG
  • Charles Bishop, C.A. Bishop Consulting, Ltd.

There are a number of applications in the display industry for thin film vacuum coatings.  Many of these are now being used on flexible substrates that can be coated roll to roll.  There are several factors that are driving this conversation.  One is the perceived lower manufacturing cost obtained by using continuous roll to roll processes.  Another is the design advantages that the use of lighter weight and flexible substrates offer to the end user.  However there are still many technological and production issues that must be overcome before the use of some of the vacuum coated flexible substrates can be considered for the display market.  This workshop will discuss many of these issues and provide a prediction as to where the market will be going in the future.  There will be representatives from the equipment manufacturers, from the substrate suppliers and from the roll to roll vacuum coating suppliers on the panel.  Time will be provided at the end for audience participation.

Innovators Showcase
Tuesday , April 27 8:30 a.m.–11:30 a.m.

Vacuum equipment manufacturers will introduce new ideas, processes, products, and services.

Education Resources Library
Monday through Thursday, April 26–29
