V-301 Care & Feeding of Mechanical Pumping Systems (half day)

This course is designed to educate attendees regarding the use and care of mechanical pumping systems.  Typical attendees are engineers new to the industry, maintenance personnel, and coating system operators who need to better understand the technology of basic pumping systems.

The course provides the attendee with an overview of the various pumps that are used in the roughing pump regime. These include mechanical pumps (direct drive, rotary piston, vane), Roots blowers, dry pumps, and cryogenic pumps for pumping water vapor. The design of each type of pump will be described. In addition, the recommended use for each pump, proper operation, and maintenance will be discussed. A major part of the course is a detailed discussion on the pumping of water vapor, preventing mechanical pump oil backstreaming, and sizing of the pumping system for particular applications.
