Minimum Qualifications:

• Two years technical school, community college, trade school, Vacuum Tech, Electronics or Military tech schooling with relevant electrical/mechanical background.
• Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel
• Minimum of 4 years experience in systems maintenance.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license. Must be insurable with no major infractions. Job will require periodic travel.
• Self-motivated and ability to work independently, as well as in a team atmosphere.
• Good customer relationship skills are mandatory.
• Basic machining skills
• Basic Knowledge of leak detection equipment & techniques
• Knowledge of electrical connection/disconnection and troubleshooting.
• Good working knowledge of electronics and compliance with current industry standards.

PRIMARY FUNCTION: To plan, direct, and coordinate the manufacturing engineering activities for thin film coatings manufacturing with designated supplier(s). Responsible for all aspects of the manufacturing engineering, including the continuous improvement, productivity and quality improvement, capacity planning and new product (colors) development. Responsible for the maintenance procedures, equipment and support capital and development plan including the planning and installation of all new equipment or maintenance related installations.
ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS

LINE: Reports to Managing Director of TMX

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

• Develops and maintains a strategic plan for the thin film production process that supports the business plan(s). Communicates with operations these requirements and assures the operating plans incorporate all necessary upgrades to support the business.

• Monitors operating conditions and manufacturing effectiveness through production reporting, and interaction with Supplier Management Team (Production Control, Process Engineering, Maintenance, Materials/Logistics and Purchasing). Suggests and drives changes to more desirable conditions or levels of operation to improve production efficiency and effectiveness.

• Responsible for the productivity improvement and quality improvement needed to support the goals of the business unit. Develops processes for new color/finishes as required by the business group. Monitors changes in the industry and evaluates new processes and trends in thin film technology to maintain competitive level of the thin film production process.

• Work with supplier management team to implement improvements in process. Coordinate efforts with production supervisors for all major equipment installations. Monitor the production output to achieve maximum effectiveness through the proper coordination of manpower, equipment, and materials.

• Works closely with supplier management team (Production Planning) to establish the most effective machine-loading plan and capacity planning to support the business groups.

• Provides expertise to the line organization in the development of standards of performance in all areas of process and equipment control.

• Drives and monitors various programs that lead to improved quality, lower costs, increased productivity and efficiencies.

• Works closely with Quality assurance to correct quality problems and to assure compliance to quality standards and procedures set forth by QA.

• Ensures the safe and proper operation of equipment, and compliance with established Timex procedures throughout the manufacturing operation of the supplier.

• Maintain technical expertise with material coatings such as TiN, TiCN, TiO, TiAlN, ZrN, ZrCN, etc. Work with outside vendors to develop new innovative coatings and improved processing methods.

• Follows and ensures compliance with applicable laws and regulations issued by country and local regulatory agencies.

REQUIREMENTS

• Bachelors degree required (technical discipline), and MBA preferred. A degree in chemistry or physics desirable.

• Three to five years of physical vapor deposition (PVD) experience required, with experience in thin film decorative coatings preferred.

• Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills. Organizational skills are essential.

Process Development Engineer - Techni-Met, Windsor, CT

Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will be responsible for development projects involving the design of processes in sputtering, converting, and new applicable technologies, such as PECVD, CVD and polymer vapor deposition. The candidate must be able to successfully transfer those processes to production. The candidate will be expected to statistically determine process limits and capabilities. The candidate will be expected to become proficient in the theory and operation of all production equipment and will be expected to drive the design and/or modification of lab and production scale equipment when required. The candidate needs to be hands-on, action-oriented and a self-starter.

This position reports to the Development Manager.

Education:
Minimum of a BS in Physics, Chemistry, or Engineering or equivalent. Experience in PVD is desired as well as web handling and converting experience. A polymer chemistry background and knowledge of CVD is also a plus. The candidate must demonstrate a strong mechanical aptitude. Training in SPC, DOE, and data analysis would be beneficial. At least three years of professional experience is required.

PVD Process/Manufacturing Engineer

The Graduate Technology Group has an opening for a process engineer in the manufacturing of chrome plated plastic parts using physical vapor deposition (PVD and PECVD) methods.

The successful candidate will have performed hands-on processing tasks for reactive sputtering of chrome on plastic substrates and demonstrated the ability to develop complex procedures for operating PVD/PECVD systems. He/she will be familiar with other manufacturing steps and equipment such as dip coating, and inspection techniques for chrome plated parts. He/she must be a practitioner of statistical analysis methods for monitoring process control. He/she must be able to effectively work on a number of simultaneous tasks within a dynamic team environment. He/she must be willing to work flexible hours depending on the work load.
